This is the area I was brought up in, lived in the original Bonamy from when it was still a construction site, through to demolition and briefly on the houses that replaced it, when to school 10 minutes walk from the Aylesbury and had friends whose famililes were overjoyed to be given a flat on the estate in the early days. This is social cleansing and practically all those I knew have had to move out, been moved out or priced out of the borough. Affordable is a ridiculous term and to whom, where and it is simply a word that means the rent will be 80% of market rents charged. There's the issue, wages don't cover it and trap many on benefits to survive (I worked for a major housing association supporting residents, so know the issues all too well!). So who is going to service the City, act as Carers, because this policy is simply creating a ghetto and a blank, tower block one at that. These homes had space, balconies, were often sited overlooking play areas and greens, near shops.... when you suck the soul from a city be mindful of the essential bodies that follow. Other area of the SE are the same and we are really not planning for a better future, simply allowing those that control the narrative to build their inadequate visions of what should be, putting far too much money in the pocket of developers who live elsewhere.
